Vision
The mission of the media center
is to build bridges to knowledge, create collaborative partnerships, and
inspire a passion for reading in all of our patrons.
Philosophy
The media center will be open to all members of our learning community and will
allow for the development of
students to reach their full potential as learners and citizens. The media
center will support all areas of the curriculum, facilitate the use of technology,
provide a foundation for life-long learning, and foster a love of reading.
The media
center is open to all students regardless of age, race, and ability. The media center is open every school day
during school hours. The media center
allows for book checkout, research, and group lessons all to occur
simultaneously. It is the belief of the
media specialist that students’ needs should be met throughout every school day
in a variety of ways. Flexible
scheduling allows for teachers and students to utilize the media services when
it fits their needs. The media center
will also promote ethical behavior among staff, students, and the
community.
The
responsibilities of the media
specialist are to be a teacher, instructional partner, information specialist,
and program administrator. As a teacher, the media specialist will collaborate
with students to analyze and meet their needs. As an instructional partner, the
media specialist will collaborate with teachers to develop programs that enrich
the curriculum. As information specialist, the media specialist will connect
students and teachers to a variety of resources. As program administrator, the
library media specialist works with the entire learning community to create
learning objectives and programs that meet their individual and group needs.
This includes managing staff, materials, equipment, and facilities that support
the library’s mission.
